Illustration from the Familie-Journalen nr. 5, February 2 1927. The caption reads: ”Battle against Chinese pirates. The attack on the steamer 'Sunning'. A few months ago telegrams came in from China speaking of a terrible pirate attack on the great steamer 'Sunning'. Since then eyewitnesses have given accounts of the fierce battle. It is based on these that the picture above was created.”
The illustration is indicative of the European view of China as an extremely backwards country. The Chinese wear clothes that were already oldfashioned at the turn of the century an the queue was long gone by 1927.
